The  sector is characterized by multiple risk factors including different types of dust and fumes, noise, exposure to chemical substances, poor ergonomics including manual lifting of heavy weights and much more.The tool starts It with the identification of hazards and assesses the level of risk, then it allows end-users to choose the most suitable preventive actions to eliminate or reduce risk. Do not forget to implement the proposed preventive measures! The tool includes tips on exhaust ventilation, fire safety, workplace ergonomics, training of workers etc.Proper risk assessment and management will protect employees from risks to their safety and health at work. Using this tool can contribute to keep them healthy, motivated and with good work ability.

Installation and removal of classic or semi-permanent nail polish, false nail application with gels or resins, nail art decoration are all activities that expose workers, mostly women, to products containing dangerous chemicals. Some of the substances contained in the resins, glues, solvents and varnishes used by nail technicians can lead to the occurrence of cutaneous and / or respiratory allergic reactions, which are responsible for 75% of the professional pathologies diagnosed in this sector. The most common ones are allergic contact dermatitis, which causes an inflammation of the skin that can lead toworkers having to stop working in the sector. In addition repetitive gestures, prolonged, constrained sitting work postures, vibrations of tools, etc. can also promote the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). To help professionals in this sector to identify and assess different risks, a this new OiRA tool has been developed by INRS in collaboration with stakeholders from the sector.

The new OiRA tool for the „Hairdressers and beauty salons“ has been developed and published in Lithuania. The tool is created for all companies and self-employed persons, that provide hairdressing and beauty services to the society. The tool covers the main risks at work, such as chemicals, cosmetics, electronic devices, skin irritation, slips and trips, ergonomics, personal protective equipment etc.

This tool prepares employers and workers for an occupational safety and health risk assessment. It helps to identify risks and to set up a plan of measures to prevent possible damages and protect the health of workers. It consists of five modules: organising and implementing measures of occupational safety, information on working conditions, tasks of hairdressers, skin protection etc. included. An introduction on the main principles of fire safety is also included.  If there are any other risks that are not specified in this tool, they can be added by the user. A final report can be saved and printed as a document of a risk assessment as well as a plan of measures if it is needed.

In most hairdressing salons, everything is geared around the client. Sometimes hairdressers disregard their own health, leading to health problems such as hairdresser eczema or wrist, neck and shoulder complaints. This often forces them, even while still very young, to abandon the profession. "OiRA peluquerías" has been developed taking as an example "OiRA Hairdressers" tool, which has been developed under the supervision of the social dialogue partners: Coiffure EU (employers) and UNI Europa Hair and Beauty (trade unions). The content is based on European legislation and particularly on the provisions of the European framework agreement on the protection of occupational health and safety in the hairdressing sector.

This risk assessment has been produced in order to assist metalworkers to do their job safely. Metal workers are exposed to different hazards like mechanical hazards, extreme temperatures (liquid metal), recurring tasks, lifting heavy loads, the dangers of airborne particles, the risk of electrocution, frequent slips and falls. They are exposed to the hazardous substances and biological agents. An interactive OiRA tool for metalworkers comprises a basic description of the risks to which metal workers are exposed during their work. With this and the proposed measures to reduce risks, the OiRA tool for metal workers encourages cooperation between employees and employers. This OiRA tool was designed to promote health in the workplace, with the combined efforts from employers, workers and society as a whole to improve the health and well-being in the workplace. Employers are responsible for its implementation.
